Ali drew from his background in the music industry to shape a course that felt both comprehensive and accessible, balancing depth with a concise runtime. The structure was designed to equip viewers with a clear understanding of how a major music video production operates.

Having spent nearly a decade at Sony Music, Ali translated Brett’s process into a visual education format. Co written with educator and writer Sundai Johnson, Music Video Styling became a long form directorial project combining fashion, music, and pop culture within an instructional framework.

The core educational segments were built around a three camera setup, with two primary angles on Brett Alan Nelson and an ultra wide that brought the crew into frame. Ali’s approach introduced a fourth wall break, placing the viewer within the environment of a working set, pairing instruction with a clear sense of how a music video production operates.

Educational vignettes offered a more hands on and tactile approach to music video styling, with Brett Alan Nelson positioned alongside archival looks from major projects he styled. These segments broke down sourcing vintage, working with established fashion houses, and commissioning custom pieces from independent designers. Breaking from the seated format, the shift to standing and movement created a more direct, guided experience, closer to a walkthrough with the instructor than a traditional lecture.
